Bring your dog

Hazel Brow is in the heart of Swaledale, brilliant walking and hiking country. As we’re dog owners ourselves, we realise the value of being able to enjoy your holiday with your 4 legged family members and of being able to enjoy our glorious walking country with your best friend which is why we’ve decided to welcome well behaved dogs at Hazel Brow.

The Main House

We’re happy to allow dogs access to the ground floor areas whilst you’re in the house but we do ask they they’re not allowed on the furniture and if you have to leave them unattended at any time, or at night, that you use the light and spacious boot room/utility room, and/or the dog crates provided, where we think your dogs will be very comfortable. Just bring their favourite blanket and they’ll feel right at home. The adjoining snug is also dog friendly, a great place to curl up by the fire with a good book or watch a film after a bracing walk  while your 4 legged friend enjoys the benefit of a real fire too! Don’t worry about muddy feet – we’ve provided a wet room to rinse off your walking boots, wellies, paws or muddy coats and provide dog towels and coats for damp dogs to dry off without making a mess. Our 8 bedrooms are furnished to 5* standards so we ask you not to allow your dogs upstairs.

The grounds

The grounds are gated and secure from the road. The steeply sloping garden leads down to a well fenced field where you can safely exercise your dogs through the day.(please check with us before your holiday as we will exclude our grazing stock)We do ask all guests to keep an eye out and to clean up after their pets. The fields below the house lead to the River Swale, a great opportunity for water loving dogs to splash and swim.

Further Afield

We have an extensive network of footpaths on our front doorstep. Click here for a definitive map. Some walks will require your dogs to be kept on leads at various times of the year as the area is famous for its native Swaledale sheep and expansive grouse moors and of course we ask you to respect the country code. All our local pubs are dog friendly (we aim to ensure everyone gets a warm Yorkshire welcome).

More than one dog?

If you are holidaying with friends or family and would like to bring more than one dog, we do ask you to consider how well your dogs get on. Lots of dogs get upset in strange places and especially in strange company: – The last thing we want is for you to be stressed out because the dogs are trying to establish a pack leader!

Dog Walkers

We can recommend some excellent local dog walkers should you wish to spend  time browsing the shops or other non dog friendly activities!
